Over the past few years, artists ex.sses and Õkami have been using their platform to contribute to the BDS (Boycott, Divest, Sanction) Movement, which calls for an end to international support for Israel's oppression of Palestinians. Drawing on dance music's innate political nature, their work – both individual and collective via Sisu Crew – raises awareness of the ways in which music lovers inadvertently fund Israel's atrocities; and organises boycott initiatives that directly target organisations that are responsible. This talk will explore the impact and challenges of organising initiatives for dance music communities to show solidarity with Palestinians, and investigate how the project can be developed.
Everyone is welcome at this event, regardless how much you know BDS/PACBI (The Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel). Come along to gain an insight into dance music's radical potential, build your organising tool kit and exchange ideas with like-minded individuals.
Mobilising for Palestine within dance music communities w/ ex.sses & Õkami (Sisu Crew) is part of En Masse’s 2025 Community and Arts Programme. This free-to-attend programme aims to enhance access to creative opportunities in Bristol, empower a diverse range of individuals to pursue creative careers, and nurture Bristol’s independent arts ecosystem by making it more connected and resilient.
